Long Time Gone

Long Time Gone

Music & Lyrics by Frances Livings © 2005

1. I wake up in the night
you have come home late
I can hear your quiet footsteps
on the carpet in the hall.
You don’t turn on the light
and I pretend to be asleep
the usual tug of the duvet
and you are lying there with me

2. You know I’m still awake
but we just can’t face to talk
and I lie there silently crying
in the dark
I hear your unsteady breath
move with each restlessness
so accustomed
to be lying there with you

Are we just a memory – of us,
of how we used to be?
are we holding on – to a memory?
Maybe this is make-believe
and we are trying, trying to believe
in something that has long time gone

Long time gone, we are – holding on
to a memory that’s long time gone
long time gone, we are – holding on
to a memory that’s long time gone

3. The distance between us
is spreading from day to day
there’s no comfort
in feeling miles apart
I hear your unsteady breath
it’s the sound of lonelyness
I feel your body
but I cannot feel your heart

Oh, we are just a memory of us,
of how we used to be!
We are holding on, to a memory!
Baby, this is make-believe
and we’re trying, trying to believe
in something that has long time gone.

Long time gone we are, holding on
to a memory that’s long time gone
Long time gone we are holding on
to a memory that’s long time gone
to a memory that’s long time gone
to a memory that’s long time gone
